There’s just nowhere quite like Edmonton, Alberta. Truly – nowhere in Canada, and honestly, nowhere else in the world (at least if you ask me!).
It’s not only one of the most affordable cities in the country, it’s also a place where big dreams are actually within reach. Here, new graduates and young professionals don’t just hope they’ll own a home “someday” – they can actually make it happen. (I could write a whole blog post on that… and, well, I have!).
But affordability is only part of the magic. Edmonton has this rare mix of small-town warmth and big-city fun. Think family-friendly adventures, a nightlife that surprises you in the best way, and of course — the kind of sports spirit that brings the entire city alive. When the Oilers hit the ice, especially during playoffs, you can feel the energy buzzing in every corner of town. Whatever you’re looking for, Edmonton delivers.
If you decide to put down roots here, the next step is to choose your ideal neighbourhood. And trust me, there are plenty to fall in love with! Each one has its own personality, from cozy, walkable streets to vibrant, big-city energy, to that sweet spot of what I like to call urban suburbia. Don’t worry though — I’ve got you covered. Here’s a little peek at some of my favourite Edmonton ’hoods and why they might just steal your heart too.

Ambleside
Home sweet home! And yes, I might be a little biased because I live here – but truly, Ambleside is one of the best places to be in all of Edmonton.
Why I love it:
Ambleside is one of Edmonton’s newer communities, so it has that fresh, modern energy – yet it’s been around long enough to develop a real sense of character. Since 2005, it’s grown into a vibrant, well-connected neighbourhood, bordered by the Anthony Henday and Ellerslie Road, and is close to both the beautiful Whitemud Creek Ravine and Edmonton’s famous North Saskatchewan River.
It’s scenic and convenient. Think restaurants, major retailers, local boutiques, a VIP cinema, and even those weekend errands you can do without ever starting your car – Ambleside is wonderfully walkable if you want it to be!
What makes it even better is the mix of homes here. From entry-level condos to stunning, spacious single-family houses, Ambleside welcomes everyone – young professionals, families, downsizers – and you can feel that energetic, welcoming spirit everywhere you go.

Windermere
The City of Edmonton is home to what we call the Windermere Area – a master-planned community that encompasses several beloved neighbourhoods, including Ambleside, Keswick, Glenridding Heights, and Glenridding Ravine.
But Windermere also refers to a specific neighbourhood, and a luxurious one at that. Most homes here are upscale, single-family residences that make the community feel both established and exclusive.
Why I love it:
I’m a nature girl through and through, and Windermere has no shortage of it. With many homes offering sweeping views of the North Saskatchewan River Valley, it’s hard not to fall in love. Add in the Windermere Golf & Country Club, plus endless walking trails, and the fact that you’re only about 20 minutes from the airport – it’s an incredible balance of fresh air and convenience.
Speaking of convenience, the Currents of Windermere Shopping Centre is right in the heart of the community, with restaurants, shops, a cinema, and all the day-to-day essentials. Families especially love the excellent schools nearby, making Windermere not only beautiful but practical for raising kids. With its upscale homes, modern amenities, and strong sense of community, it’s no wonder Windermere is one of Edmonton’s most sought-after neighbourhoods for families and professionals alike.
Terwillegar Towne
The words “young” and “hip” perfectly capture the vibe of Terwillegar Towne. This highly popular community is centered around its town square and neighborhood park – a true gathering place where neighbours come together for events, shopping, and everyday conveniences.
Why I love it:
As one of the first Edmonton neighbourhoods designed with new urbanism principles, Terwillegar Towne strikes such a great balance: it’s trendy yet peaceful, relaxed but with every convenience close at hand. Shops, cafés, bakeries, and great restaurants make it easy to enjoy local flavours, while larger shopping centres like the Market at Magrath and Terwillegar Heights are within walking distance or just a quick drive away. Being inside the Anthony Henday ring road also makes commuting downtown so much easier.
Families especially love the abundance of parks, playgrounds, and extensive walking trails – and of course, the always-popular spray park in the summer! The Terwillegar Community Recreation Centre (now called the Booster Juice Recreation Centre) offers a wide range of activities including swimming, skating, hockey, and fitness programs. You’ll also find plenty of paved trails winding through green spaces, around storm ponds, and connecting playgrounds – perfect for walking, jogging, or cycling.
The real estate here is just as diverse as the community itself. While single-family homes are the most common, you’ll also find townhouses and duplexes that add more affordable options, welcoming an even wider mix of residents. Add in excellent nearby schools, and it’s no wonder the Terwillegar area has become such a sought-after address for families and young professionals alike.
Crestwood/Glenora
Glenora and Crestwood could easily be called the “Bel-Air of Edmonton” – just with fewer celebrity sightings. These prestigious neighbourhoods are home to some of the city’s most beautiful (and expensive) real estate, including magnificent multimillion-dollar homes that feel straight out of a movie set.
For most of us, it’s nice to dream, but Glenora and Crestwood showcase the heights of what could be possible in Edmonton. Real estate here may be out of the budget for all but a few fortunate people, but it is still more affordable than in places like Toronto. In Glenora and Crestwood, you could live like a star (without the paparazzi, of course), whereas in Toronto, you would just be in a regular old house. No fun at all!
Why I love it:
The setting is nothing short of stunning. Many of these majestic homes back onto ravines, perch along the river valley, or enjoy elevated views of the North Saskatchewan River. It’s an upscale lifestyle that feels private, scenic, and serene – yet you’re still only minutes from the heart of the city. With tree-lined streets, excellent nearby schools, and a strong sense of community pride, Crestwood and Glenora truly represent Edmonton at its most iconic.

Larch Park
As a south-side girl through and through, I’ve got my eye on Larch Park for my next home. This unique neighbourhood feels unlike anything else in the city – honestly, maybe even the whole province.
Why I love it:
Larch Park sits right on the edge of the MacTaggart Sanctuary, a 59-acre protected park reserve in the middle of Edmonton. Walking or hiking here feels less like city life and more like a getaway to Jasper — endless trees, winding trails, and the kind of quiet that makes you forget you’re still within city limits. With its focus on sustainability, the community is designed to protect this natural beauty so residents can enjoy it for generations to come.
And yet, modern living is never far away. The shopping and dining districts of Magrath Heights and the greater Windermere area are just a short drive, so you can enjoy both untouched nature and urban convenience.
The real estate mix in Larch Park consists of everything from executive condos to single-family & estate homes, all designed by custom and signature builders following the strictest guidelines in terms of environmental friendliness. Larch Park is also home to a community garden & orchard, which allows local residents to grow their own food while interacting and forming new friendships.
