The Uplands Edmonton walking trails

Is The Uplands a good place to live? If you’re looking for a newer west Edmonton community with beautiful green space, modern homes and excellent access to Anthony Henday Drive, The Uplands should definitely be on your list…

The Uplands is one of west Edmonton’s newest communities, attracting buyers looking for modern homes, beautiful green space and quick access to the rest of the city. Whether you’re buying your first home, upsizing, downsizing or simply looking for a low-maintenance lifestyle, The Uplands offers an excellent balance of convenience, value and outdoor living.

Where is The Uplands?

The Uplands is located in west Edmonton, just north of Anthony Henday Drive and west of Winterburn Road. Developed by Melcor as part of the Riverview area, it’s one of Edmonton’s fastest-growing newer communities.

One of the biggest advantages of living here is convenience. Anthony Henday Drive is less than five minutes away, making it easy to reach southwest Edmonton, west Edmonton, downtown or Edmonton International Airport.

Why Buyers Love The Uplands

If you’re looking for a newer community without paying the premium found in some southwest Edmonton neighbourhoods, The Uplands offers excellent value. Many residents also love that, with all of the ponds, trails and green space, it feels like you’re escaping the city while still being close to everything.

Some of the reasons buyers choose The Uplands include:

  • Modern homes and floor plans
  • Excellent value for newer construction
  • Beautiful ponds and walking trails
  • Wedgewood Creek Ravine access
  • Easy commuting via Anthony Henday Drive
  • Family-friendly streets
  • Growing community with future amenities

  • Homes with and without condo fees

Most homes feature open-concept layouts, attached garages, quartz countertops, energy-efficient construction and contemporary finishes that today’s buyers appreciate.

Builders in The Uplands

Several respected builders have helped shape the community, giving buyers plenty of choice in home styles, floor plans and price points.

Parks, Trails & Outdoor Living

One of my favourite things about The Uplands is how much green space surrounds the community. It doesn’t feel like many newer neighbourhoods where homes are packed tightly together. Instead, you’ll find ponds, landscaped pathways and plenty of room to get outside.

Residents enjoy:

  • More than 8.5 km of scenic walking trails
  • Wedgewood Creek Ravine
  • Stormwater ponds
  • Parks and playgrounds
  • Cycling and walking paths
  • Beautiful natural views throughout the community

Whether you’re walking the dog, going for a run or simply enjoying an evening stroll, there’s no shortage of places to explore.

Shopping & Amenities

Although The Uplands feels peaceful and tucked away, you’re only minutes from everyday conveniences.

Nearby amenities include:

  • The Currents of Windermere
  • Costco
  • Save-On-Foods
  • Co-op
  • Shoppers Drug Mart
  • Canadian Tire
  • HomeSense
  • Winners
  • Restaurants
  • Coffee shops
  • Fitness centres
  • Banks and professional services

West Edmonton Mall is also a short drive away.

Schools

As The Uplands continues to grow, families have access to nearby public, Catholic and private schools in surrounding west Edmonton communities. Additional schools are planned as the Riverview area continues to develop.

As school boundaries can change, I always recommend confirming attendance areas directly with Edmonton Public Schools or Edmonton Catholic Schools before purchasing.

Commuting

Living in The Uplands makes commuting surprisingly easy.

Approximate drive times include:

  • Anthony Henday Drive – under 5 minutes
  • Whitemud Drive – approximately 10 minutes
  • The Currents of Windermere – approximately 10 minutes
  • West Edmonton Mall – approximately 15 minutes
  • Downtown Edmonton – approximately 25–30 minutes
  • Edmonton International Airport – approximately 30 minutes

Future Growth

The Uplands is still growing, which is exciting for both homeowners and buyers. As the Riverview area continues to develop, residents can expect additional parks, services, schools and amenities to be added over time.

Buying into a growing community often means enjoying newer infrastructure while watching the neighbourhood mature around you.

My Thoughts

One thing I’ve learned after helping buyers across Edmonton for nearly two decades is that choosing the right neighbourhood is just as important as choosing the right house.

The Uplands continues to stand out because it offers modern homes, excellent value and a lifestyle that’s hard to find elsewhere. You get beautiful green space, scenic trails and quick access to major roads, while still feeling like you’ve escaped the city. It’s one of those communities that often surprises buyers once they spend a little time exploring it.

If you’re considering buying in The Uplands, I’d be happy to answer your questions, show you what’s currently available or help you compare it with nearby communities like River’s Edge, Edgemont or Stillwater.
